LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Our Lady Star of the Sea Regional School  website. I hope that your “virtual visit” provides you with information and insight into our mission and philosophy, as well as our programs.

Our Lady Star of the Sea Regional  School has been fostering the spiritual, academic, physical, and emotional growth of children in Atlantic City and surrounding communities for over  one hundred  years under the charism of the Sisters of Mercy.  Our students, unique children of God, are nurtured in a safe, loving, caring environment.

OLSS is a fully accredited Catholic school in the Camden Diocese servicing children in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade with two special education classes.  The dedicated, state certified staff of Our Lady Star of the Sea School challenges and encourages a very culturally diverse body of learners. Faculty and staff continually strive for the advancement, safety, and well-being of each and every child. They choose to be teachers in a Catholic school because they consider their profession to be a ministry and not just a job.

Our Lady Star of the Sea School has a strong  academic program in place and implements the curriculum set forth by the Diocese.  All students partake in Computer in a newly renovated lab and Physical Education classes in addition to solid core subjects. Music, Art, and Spanish are integrated throughout the week.  OLSS  students participate in enrichment programs such as First in Math, Math Counts, Surfrider Club, and Choir.  OLSS takes every opportunity to partner with the Atlantic County community and enjoys a special partnership with the Science Department of Atlantic Cape Community College to provide additional STEM activities for our Middle School students , a local Superior Court Judge who teaches creative writing, and a local architect and historian who present a year long architecture course.  This course is  virtually linked to our partner school, St. Sylvester, in Chicago.   Our Lady Star of the Sea School students are well-prepared to continue on to the high school of their choice including Holy Spirit, Charter Tech, ACIT and many others.

Athletics is an important part of the school program both during and after school. All grade levels participate in Physical Education classes and  extra-curricular offerings include volleyball, basketball and track.

An extremely strong Catholic Identity is present at Our Lady Star of the Sea School. All classes prepare and celebrate Mass together as a school family each first Friday and on other important occasions and Prayer Services are included for such occasions as Mercy Day, Advent, Catholic Schools Week and Earth Day.  Each  day begins and ends with a school-wide prayer led by the students. Religion is taught daily and the students themselves serve as choir, lectors, and altar servers. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered to the student body during both Advent and Lent. The school has a strong Mission program and supports  many causes such as Catholic Charities, the local  Police and Fire Department, Pennies for Patients, and veterans organizations.   Food collections and Soup for the Souper Bowl are held throughout the year.

If you are a member of our school/parish community thank you for your support of Our Lady Star of the Sea Regional School.

If you are looking for a safe, nurturing, academically strong school for your child, Our Lady Star of the Sea Regional School is the place.  We would love to have you personally “Experience the Excellence” at Our Lady Star of the Sea School, so please contact us.
